What is a solar permit plan set?

A plan set is the drawing package a local building department, called the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), reviews before it approves a solar installation. It usually includes a site plan, roof layout, electrical diagrams, labels and equipment details. Requirements differ from one jurisdiction to the next.

Who builds the plan set?

Ballast software builds it for you, powered by AI, from your project details. Ballast engineers review every set before it goes out, and you can open it in the app to check or adjust anything.

How do I get started or see pricing?

Do you guarantee that a permit will be approved?

No. Approval decisions belong to your local jurisdiction and utility. We build sets to reduce corrections and resubmittals, but we cannot guarantee any outcome.

Do you build custom software for contractors?

Yes. We take on custom apps, workflow and CRM automation, and design and permitting process reviews. Every project starts with a scoping call and a written proposal.

Effective October 5, 2026. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Ballast Technologies website and of the software, plan set services and consulting we offer under the Ballast name (together, the “Services”). “Ballast,” “we” and “us” mean Ballast Technologies. By using the Services you agree to these Terms.

1. Using the Services

You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract. If you use the Services for a business, you confirm you have authority to bind that business. Keep your login details private, follow the law, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. We may suspend access that puts the Services or other users at risk.

2. Software, plan sets and engineering

Ballast Solar and the Remodel Planner produce drawings and related documents from information you provide. You are responsible for the accuracy of the site information, measurements, photos and equipment selections you submit. Before you submit or build from any document, you are responsible for confirming that it fits the site and meets the requirements of your local jurisdiction, utility and applicable codes.

Engineer oversight, where included, applies to the documents we produce under your order. It does not replace your own responsibilities as the contractor or installer. Ballast does not guarantee that any permit, interconnection or other approval will be granted, or that a document will pass review without corrections.

3. Fees and payment

Fees are shown when you order or in a written quote. Fees for services, add-ons, and permit or interconnection submission may be priced separately. You authorize us and our payment processor to charge the payment method you provide. You are responsible for applicable taxes unless we state otherwise. Any refund or credit is described in your order or written quote.

4. Your content and data

You keep ownership of the content you submit, such as project details, photos, logos and documents. You give Ballast a limited license to use that content to operate, support, secure and improve the Services and to produce the documents you ordered. How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.

5. Our intellectual property

The Services, including the software, templates, designs, text and the Ballast name and marks, belong to Ballast or its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Services for your own business. Documents we produce for your project may be used for that project. Third-party equipment names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify compatible equipment.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

reverse engineer, scrape or copy the Services or their underlying methods;
resell or share access without our written permission;
bypass usage limits, security features or access controls;
upload malicious code or content you have no right to use;
use the Services to break the law or the rights of others.

7. Calculators and estimates

The calculators on this website are illustrations based on the numbers you enter. They are not quotes, forecasts or guarantees of results.

8. Consulting

Consulting and custom build work is governed by the written proposal we agree with you. If a proposal conflicts with these Terms, the proposal controls for that work.

9. Third-party services and links

The Services may link to or rely on third-party sites and tools. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or practices.

10. Disclaimers

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted or error free.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Ballast will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or project delays. Our total liability for any claim related to the Services will not exceed the amount you paid Ballast for the Services in the 12 months before the claim arose.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify Ballast against claims, losses and costs arising from content you submit, your use of the Services in breach of these Terms, or your use of any document in your construction or permitting work.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date above shows the latest version. If you keep using the Services after a change, you accept the updated Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Utah, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
